SARATOGA SPRINGS – Last year’s Fairy Fest at Pitney Meadows Community Farm welcomed over 800 guests during the family friendly afternoon-long event. This year, a committee of dedicated volunteers and staff, are anticipating large crowds once again, and are busy at work creating a magical day on the farm for children and their families. “I am beyond thrilled to be part of the planning for this amazing event. As a retired teacher and community gardener, it’s exciting to be part of Pitney Meadows and have the opportunity to contribute to the creation of magical fairy attire for this event,” said Marta Pikar, Fairy Fest Committee Member.

The cornerstone of the event is the Pitney Meadows Fairy Garden, created by local artist Jess Clauser. The large installation anchoring the Northern edge of the Community Gardens, is filled with paths for children to explore a variety of plants, fungi, bee baths, and of course, fairy houses. “I like to see kids coming to the Farm to connect them with the wonders of nature that this place provides,” said Jess. She will lead a workshop prior to the event, on Saturday, September 14th, for children to construct fairy houses with natural materials. Each child will decorate one house to bring home and one house to place in the Fairy Garden for display at the Fairy Fest. Registration is requested on pitneymeadowscommunityfarm.org.

Planned activities for this year’s Fairy Fest include storytelling, hay jumping, fields games, Fairy Queen and Elf King meet and greet, face painting, a magical raffle, giant sunflowers, toddler play area, and much more. There will be stations for creating your own fairy or elf costumes. Hand-made items will also be for sale on site as well as a Farm Stand featuring snack and refreshments from the farm. Children are also invited to come in their own costumes.

The Fairy Fest is held in the Pitney Meadows Community Gardens, and guests are invited to explore the whole farm property. The Community Gardens are run by Joyce Carroll who came on as Director of the gardens this winter. Joyce has overseen an expansion from 70 public garden beds to 110 this season.  Individuals, families, and community groups like Saratoga Bridges, the Girl Scouts, and the Community Health Center have all been working hard to have their plots looking lush for this exciting event. Sharing the gardens with the public and with children is a true gift, as explained by Joyce, “this event is a perfect expression of our commitment to provide joyful and educational programming for our community. We are grateful to be celebrating everything fairy, agriculture, and community!”

Interested community members are encouraged to register and purchase their tickets on the Pitney Meadows website ASAP, as there is a 450 person cut-off this year. All children are free and adults are $5.
