SARATOGA SPRINGS – When I look back at my career as a photojournalist, it is a night like this that I will remember most fondly.

I always considered it a privilege to be able to cover events like Hattie’s Mardi Gras, which afforded people an opportunity to simultaneously open their hearts to give to important causes, while enjoying a party that was top-shelf in every respect (great food, great music, great etc.). It also gave us a chance to “laugh at winter,” at least for one night.

Add it all up and well, this one always ranked very high with me – a standout on a robust annual gala calendar. When you attended, you always got the impression that you were experiencing something special, and yet, we had no idea that it might not always be like this.

Now, of course, we learned through loss, just how rare, how fragile, this special feeling can be.

So, as much as the 2023 Hattie’s Mardi Gras was a celebration, it was also a reason for everyone in attendance to count their blessings. And in so doing, we rejoiced in the simple fact that what was once lost, perhaps forever, has returned full circle to us again, on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the gorgeous Canfield Casino.

Bon temps, indeed! Enjoy the gallery.
