Come Early for a Pre-show Art-making Activity for Kids!
SARATOGA SPRINGS – The Tang Teaching Museum is proud to announce that Alta Havana will perform traditional Cuban music as part of the acclaimed summer concert series Upbeat on the Roof on Thursday, August 4. The music begins at 6 pm on the lawn outside the Tang. A drop-in art-making activity for kids begins at 5:30 pm.
Alta Havana was founded in 2018 by Jorge Gomez, music director and founder of multi-Grammy-nominated Cuban band Tiempo Libre, when he moved from Miami Beach to Saratoga Springs. Comprised of musicians Angel Dueno, Miguel Santiago, William A. Rodriguez, and Gomez, Alta Havana creates music based on the roots of traditional Cuban music—such as son, cha-cha-chá, bolero, and rumba, with the goal of bringing the public an authentic Cuban party where they can dance and sing along.
The art-making activity for kids is new this year. Children aged 5-12 are invited to arrive at 5:30 pm to get creative and make art with Tang Education Intern Paul Seggev ’23, the Carole Marchand ’57 Endowed Intern. For this week, kids can join in creating a world of chalk on the pavement outside the Tang Museum! Collaborate with others in making a sprawling display of colors, patterns, characters, and more. All materials will be provided, and no registration is required.
Performances take place on the lawn outside the Tang and are free and open to the public. Visitors are invited to bring picnic blankets, camping chairs, and their own food and drink to make it a night. Free parking is available off Perimeter Road, next to the museum. In case of rain, both the art-making activity and concert will move indoors. Upbeat events continue every Thursday through August 18.
