Saratoga’s ‘Souper Bowl’ Winners

SARATOGA COUNTY – {{{Editor’s Note: Congratulations to the winners, the biggest of which is you! Your indomitable spirit enabled you to pivot, and assure that a beloved event has endured no matter what. Probably every one of us would rather gather together on that special winter Saturday; and when that happens again (hopefully in 2022!) we will be the generation that appreciates these little basic things that make up “quality of life” – until then, kudos to all for chow(der)ing down! – AG}}}

Discover Saratoga is excited to announce the winners of Saratoga Chowder Tour, which was held Saturday, January 30 through Saturday, February 6, 2021. Due to the current pandemic, Saratoga Chowder Tour was a week-long event where patrons enjoyed a cup or bowl of chowder at 37 participating Saratoga County restaurants and voted for their favorite online.

“Chowder Tour has been a thorough success,” said Thirsty Owl Bistro General Manager Josh Cupp. “Leave it to Discover Saratoga to find a way to garner support and synergy during a global pandemic. The idea to spread it out over a week was genius, and it accomplished two huge goals: keeping everyone spaced out and safe, while injecting the shot in the arm all of the restaurants desperately needed right now. Great job and thanks!”

This year, winners were chosen in four different categories. Saratoga Chowder Tour awards will be presented over the next week and Discover Saratoga will share photos of the winners with their awards on social media.

 The 2021 Saratoga Chowder Tour winners are as follows:

  • People’s Choice 200 bowls or less: Nostalgia Ale House & Wine Bar, Rueben Chowder
  • People’s Choice 201-400 bowls: Taverna Novo, Carbonara Chowder
  • People’s Choice 401-750 bowls: Taquero Tacos and Donuts, Crab & Chorizo Chowder
  • People’s Choice over 750 bowls: Ribbon Café, Southwest Shrimp Corn Chowder

Chowder Tour Highlights:

  • 37 chowder vendors
  • Over 22,000 8 ounce bowls served

“Congratulations to our winners,” said Discover Saratoga President Darryl Leggieri. “All of our participating restaurants did an outstanding job of making great chowder and serving it safely. We really appreciate their creativity and resiliency this past week. We also want to thank our community for being flexible and realizing that this year was different. It mattered that you came out and supported our small businesses during a tough time.”
