And That’s “The Way It Is”

BSBPA Car Show Winner Announced

BALLSTON SPA – In lieu of its annual “The Way We Were” Car Show, traditionally held the Sunday of Columbus Day weekend but canceled this year due to coronavirus concerns and restrictions on mass gatherings in New York State, the Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association (BSBPA) instead held a virtual car show with the humorous title “The Way It Is” to reflect the current situation.

The BSBPA hosted the virtual car show as a Facebook Event to celebrate and showcase the many fine classic and custom vehicles that would normally line Front Street and invited participants to submit photos of the vehicles they would have brought to this year’s show, along with their name and the make, model and year. Over 50 entries were received.  The public was invited to view and “like” their favorite vehicles, with the “People’s Choice” winner being the entry registering the most likes by October 11, the date of this year’s show.  The winner was James Jones from Glenville, NY with his 1930 Ford Model A Coupe.

According to Jones, “I bought this as a rough shell of a body in 2011 and spent the last nine years building it. The frame is all handmade from 2×4” steel and tubular crossmembers. The top has been chopped 5” and the body received numerous custom touches, including the handmade “bobbed” rear fenders, before being painted in a custom mix, three-stage Butterscotch Pearl urethane. The engine is a supercharged 454 big block backed by a three-speed auto and Dana 60 rear. With the exception of the upholstery, every inch of this car was completed in my home shop.”

Jones received a Ballston Spa gift certificate, good at many local shops, restaurants and services and a “The Way It Is” T-shirt. “While we are disappointed not to have our visitors, vendors and, of course, the fabulous cars this year, we are looking forward to putting on a great show next year”, says car show chairperson Donna Dardaris.  “We hope all our regular participants as well as newcomers will join us on October 10, 2021.”

The Ballston Spa Business and Professional Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit community organization committed to making the Village of Ballston Spa a great place to live and work, and to bringing quality events for all ages to the community.
