Saratoga Recycles Day -October 26

Community Organizations will receive and re-purpose usable items

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Clean out your closets and pile up your old household electronics! Sustainable Saratoga’s 3rd annual Saratoga Recycles Day is set for Saturday, October 26 from 9 am – 2 pm in the SPAC overflow parking lot on the west side of Route 50.

What: Saratoga Recycles Day
When: Saturday, October 26th from 9 am-2 pm
Where: SPAC Parking Lot, west side of Route 50

Cost: $5 per vehicle fee, plus $20 per TV or monitor (limit of 4 TVs per vehicle)

In anticipation of a great turnout again this year, they have redesigned the traffic flow to keep vehicles off of Route 50, reduce idling time, and keep vehicles moving through the collection stations more quickly. Sustainable Saratoga is also encouraging friends and families to pool their items in order to reduce traffic while waiting to re purpose the contents of each vehicle.

This year, they will be accepting clothing & textiles, appliances & electronics (including TVs), metal, eyeglasses, hearing aids, bikes, fabric & art supplies, sleeping bags, backpacks, twin sheets, towels, blankets, and more. Be sure to visit their Recycles Day webpage for complete details so you are not turned away by bringing something they do not accept.

“We were thrilled with the huge turnout last year, and we look forward to another successful year of diverting tens of thousands of pounds of useful items from the landfill,” said Ann Samuelson, co-Chair of Sustainable Saratoga’s Zero Waste Committee. “We want to thank everyone who supports this event – as well as the many volunteers who come out to help make this day possible. It’s a fun day. There’s a festival atmosphere and a tangible sense of community as people clean out and declutter in an environmentally responsible way.”

Roughly 800 vehicles went through last year’s recycling loop. We collected over 26 tons of electronics, which were ultimately taken to JGS Recycling and Hauling in Waterford. While electronics was the most popular category by far – including a whopping 660 TVs and monitors – we also collected almost 4 tons of textiles and clothing, over 100 bicycles, and lots of sleeping bags, backpacks and blankets were donated during the event to help people in need in our community.

Sustainable Saratoga is pleased to be able to provide useful items to area nonprofits at the same time, including the Backstretch Employees Service Team (B.E.S.T.), Bikeatoga, CAPTAIN Community Human Services, the Saratoga Springs Lions Club, Prospect Child & Family Center, Her Treasure Box, and Shelters of Saratoga.
