Reaffirming My VISIÓN

Visión is an annual highlight of the Saratoga racing season featuring the opening reception of the new pieces in EOC’s photography project: “Estamos Aqui” (We Are Here). This is a curated exhibit and ongoing project in which Latino immigrants document their everyday lives and present their own photographs, to share their experiences of living and working in the Saratoga Springs area. Through this inspiring photo collective, we gain a unique insight into the lives of those who contribute so meaningfully to our community.

This evening’s event benefited Saratoga County EOC’s Latino Community Advocate Program (LCAP) which operates a full-time seasonal office at the recreation hall at the Saratoga Race Course. There they provide vital services to the largely immigrant backstretch workforce who care for the racehorses. Their bilingual staff organize programming and meet one on one to address the individual needs of workers and their families. They work to create a welcoming community where all workers feel comfortable asking for help and feel connected to the local community.

LCAP offers services at the backstretch that offer support in four main areas: health, legal, education and financial:

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) Classes
  • Photography Workshop Series and Exhibit (Estamos Aqui – We Are Here)
  • Immigrant Rights Trainings
  • Immigration Legal Services through free and pro-bono attorneys
  • Free Income Tax Preparation
  • Assistance with Employment Paperwork
  • Asset Building – opening bank accounts, budgeting and managing finances
  • Access to Medical and Health Services
  • Interpreting Medical Appointments
  • Assistance with Health Insurance Applications
  • Interpreting and Document Translation
  • Referrals and assistance navigating local resources
  • Community education
  • Mobile Consulate on Wheels for Passport Renewals and Consular ID Cards
